Beautiful food in a wonderful vintage tea room and gift emporium. Welcoming friendly host with a wide choice of food and cakes.

Found this place only a few months ago, lovely setting, beautiful food and a friendly welcome.

A Hidden Gem in the Welsh Valleys. I first found this tea room about two years ago when I was returning to the Rhondda Valleys, South Wales. I actually did a search on Facebook and up it came... Old New Beginnings Vintage Tea Room & Gift Emporium. A friend and I went for coffee and cake mid-afternoon to "try it out" and we were astonished at what lies behind an industrial-type exterior; a testament to the adage, "never judge a book by its cover."The industrial park location is just a few steps from the main road, actually, and both the tea room, and its (same owners) dog grooming salon are both right there. If you're an animal-lover, you're going to love this place even more, believe me.Everyone who enters the tea room is greeted by Maria, the owner, a vivacious, courteous, lovely, woman, who brings back the longtime - and missed, I might add - British tradition of knowing how to politely and genuinely greet guests and make them instantly at home. The tables are covered in varying styles of vintage tablecloths, little lamps, and/or candles, quaint floral displays, and beautifully kept vintage dishes. One would swear that it was a tea room of the past, however, there is nothing dark or maudlin about these vintage traditions. It is bright, and cheerful, and colourful, and the food... well, the food... you must try the tantalizing creations Maria creates. Personally, I've always gone for the sweets and specialty coffees, and they never fail to disappoint. There is a variety of cakes - not run-of-the-mill cakes, but gloriously festive cakes that truly make the mouth water. My friend - and relatives later - ordered tea, each cup and saucer arriving with its own distinctive teapot. One would swear they'd arrived in a universe of Cath Kidston, Emma Bridgewater, and all the classically British potters of the past: A feast for the eyes.Adjoining the tea room is the gift emporium - again, traditionally British, traditionally cheerful, and while we were there, we heard plenty of 'ahs' and 'I have to buy this, I can't resist,' comments.Maria is the sort of host we wish were ensconced in all establishments that serve the public. You will be hard-pressed to find a more gracious woman who will go out of her way to accommodate you.Every time we are in the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales (Tonypandy, specifically) we never fail to visit.
